| From October 8th to 12th, 2009, the city of Plzen in the Czech Republic hosted the 13th annual Final of the International Awards for Liveable Communities (LivCom). LivCom is a non-political, international organization whose objective is to improve the quality of life of citizens around the world through the creation of 'liveable communities'. The annual LivCom Awards are endorsed by the United Nations Environmental Program. They provide an opportunity for delegates from around the world to present and exchange best practice and to share their collective, practical experience in sensitive, creative and sustainable community development.
In 2009, 250 delegates from 53 towns and cities across 17 countries were invited to the Awards to make their final presentations to the panel of international judges. The finals were held over a 4 day period at the Park Hotel in Plzen. I was privileged to document the event on behalf of LivCom and was inspired not only by the innovative and creative environmental solutions that were being offered, but by the positive and proactive efforts of the delegates to share, to learn, and to take the ideas gained back to their home countries to make the world a better place.
